Skyler, Tervela Offer Hardware-Accelerated Order Book

Skyler Technology has combined its order book aggregation and analytics engine with Tervela’s hardware-based messaging fabric to minimize latency in trading applications. The joint offering combines Skyler’s embedded feed handling capabilities and the Skyler C3 order book aggregation and analytics engine with Tervela’s hardware-based messaging, routing, and caching. The latency reduction derives from a minimal total number of network hops for market data and the use of hardware-based acceleration and in-memory analytics capabilities.

So, those party animals at ACTIV Financial have invited me to a little gathering tonight - at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square - to formally launch ActivFeed MPU, their new hardware-accelerated feed handling software.  It should be an great event, and I’m looking forward to finding out more about the black art of programming FPGAs (that’s Field Programmable Gate Arrays) - an emerging technology that could have a huge impact on low latency systems.

Birnbaum Re-emerges at Hush Hush Low Latency Startup

Jeffrey Birnbaum - former Managing Director and Chief Technical Architect for the Institutional Securities division at Morgan Stanley, who left the firm quietly last year - has re-emerged as the founder of a stealth mode start-up, 60East Technologies.

At 60East, he is leading the developing of the Advanced Message Processing System (AMPS) which he claims delivers unprecedented levels of performance required for real- time environments (greater than 1 million FIXML messages per second) using multi- socket, multi- core commodity computers and 10 gigabit networking.

Birnbaum will be presenting alongside IBM at tomorrow’s Linux/Open Source on Wall Street event in New York City.
