Reuters, Intel, HP and Voltaire are collaborating to pitch what they say is the lowest latency offering based around Reuters Market Data System (RMDS). The Infiniband-based tuned configuration reduces the overall system latency by as much as 48 percent (compared to an ethernet-based configuration), according to independent testing by the Securities Technology Analysis Center (STAC).

Benchmarking specialist Securities Technology Analysis Center (STAC) will open a New York facility in July 2007 to augment its existing Chicago area lab. The NYC facility will house a simulated trading environment where STAC and its customers can test innovative combinations of technologies—or technology “stacks.” The lab will include stacks for many areas of the trading process, including market data distribution, tick databasing, complex event processing, messaging, and order execution.

Securities Technology Analysis Center has released the detailed report on its study of OPRA data through Wombat on Sun/AMD servers and Solaris 10.  Interestingly, the report relates performance results to specific cost drivers, introducing metrics such as “updates per watt”.

Securities Technology Analysis Center has published highlights from an upcoming benchmark report, covering Wombat Financial Software’s OPRA Feed Handlers and 29West’s Latency Busters Messaging, running on a Sun Fire X4600 M2 Server using Solaris 10. The system under test has 8 dual core AMD 8220SE 2.8 GHz processors, for a total of 16 cores.

Stac has released a study of Wombat on Cisco SFS InfiniBand compared to Gigabit Ethernet. The system used Wombat’s standard transport benchmark (Wommark) over Wombat MiddleWare. The setup used Tyan 2xDual Core Opteron 2.8 GHz (Rev F) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.4.

Securities Technology Analysis Center (Stac) has released its first study of Reuters RMDS on a system using InfiniBand networking. In the benchmarks, the Voltaire InfiniBand solution reduced latency by up to 46% compared to Ethernet. Using expected 2007 peak update rates, the difference amounts to a quarter millisecond for US level 1 equities and nearly half a millisecond for OPRA.
