Sponsor Whitepaper: Intel QuickAssist Technology

From Intel

Financial services firms know that forcing general-purpose CPUs to do it all is not the most efficient or productive means of accomplishing highly specialized tasks. Better to attach an optimized accelerator module to the system, one that is streamlined and loaded with algorithms for the task at hand.

Acting much like a turbocharger on a car, accelerator hardware helps the “engine” to go faster when called upon. Given the clear advantages of peak processing performance in the financial marketplace, the demand for accelerator technologies capable of increasing performance and power efficiency for compute-intensive tasks is set to grow rapidly in the coming years.

Through a variety of initiatives under the banner of Intel QuickAssist Technology open attach strategy for accelerators, Intel will support accelerator innovation across functionalities, markets, and interconnects. For accelerators based on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and tightly coupled to the CPU via the front side bus (FSB), Intel is developing the Intel QuickAssist Technology Accelerator Abstraction Layer (AAL), a consistent set of platform-level services for accelerators.

Additionally, Intel is working with IBM and the PCI-SIG on Geneseo, a series of improvements to PCI Express* technology. Through these and other initiatives, Intel is helping to usher in the next generation of accelerator-powered computing.
