STAC Benchmarks Exegy Ticker Plant, Mellanox Infiniband
Securities Technology Analysis Center (STAC) has released results of a benchmark conducted on Exegy’s Ticker Plant (XTP), showing 80 microsecond mean latency at one million updates per second. The benchmark configuration included the Field Processor Gate Array (FPGA)-based XTP version 1.2, Mellanox Infiniband and clients running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.4 on AMD multicore processors.
Under the benchmarks, the XTP achieved 80 microseconds mean latency at one million updates per second and a 99th percentile latency of 150 microseconds. The XTP was also able to handle 2.4 times OPRA’s projected rate for 2008 in a single server. Additionally, XTP cost driver figures showed a delivery of 2503 updates-per-second per watt at maximum throughput.
The benchmark used STAC Tools, which captured every message into and out of the system and measured end-to-end latency between multiple machines with one microsecond precision. STAC Tools incorporate TS-Associates‘ Tipoff product, which in turn make use of Endace’s DAG network monitoring cards.
