Survey: Minimizing Datafeed Latency - Vendors Need To Do More

Datafeed vendors need to do more to minimize latency on their feeds, according to a survey conducted by Low-Latency.com and Reuters.  While 30 per cent of respondents felt that vendors were doing enough in this area, an overwhelming 61 per cent felt that more work was needed.  Respondents represented directors and heads of market data at global firms, along with technical and IT departments for both the buy- and sell-side.

Another area of interest concerned tools for measuring latency (70 per cent of respondents say they currently measure latency of feeds).  Some 35 per cent of respondents felt that available tools were not sufficient, while a further 30 percent are currently evaluating tools.  11 per cent don’t know what tools exist.

70 per cent of respondents feel that either their current or soon-to-be systems can cope with data volumes.  A similar percentage cite minimizing latency to be more important than acheiving higher throughput.
